How it works
You choose the databases to manage
When you connect the account, Simplio shows those on RDS and Lightsail from all regions; you tick which ones come in.
You start, stop, copy
Stopping asks for confirmation and, if you enable it, the code from your phone. Making a copy is a button; copies are listed with their date and size.
You restore from a copy
You choose the copy and Simplio creates a new database from it, without touching the original.
You watch CPU, connections and space
24-hour charts on the card. Free space going down is the warning that counts most.
How secure it is
Deleting copies asks for two-factor
And it goes in the log. A database copy isn't deleted by a mistaken click.
Delete: only what was created here
A database you already had in AWS can't be deleted from Simplio: the most you can do is stop it. Only those created from Simplio are deleted, by the person who created them, with a separate permission and two-factor. Restoring creates a new one, never overwrites.
If it's deleted in AWS, you see it
A database deleted outside Simplio appears as "Does not exist in AWS" and can be removed from the list; it doesn't stay as if it were still there.
The same task, in AWS and in Simplio
| On your own in AWS | In Simplio | |
|---|---|---|
| Stop the test database on Friday | RDS console → region → instance → Actions → Stop temporarily | "Stop" button on the card |
| Make a copy before a migration | Console → Actions → Take snapshot → name | "Copy" button |
| See whether the disk is filling up | CloudWatch → FreeStorageSpace | Chart on the card |
| Let only the developer see it | IAM policy by ARN | Checkbox on their user |
Frequently asked questions
Can an RDS be stopped forever?
No: AWS starts it again on its own after seven days. The guide "Stop an RDS database so you don't pay for it" explains the alternatives.
Does Simplio see the data in my database?
No. Simplio handles the database as an object (status, copies, charts); it doesn't connect to it or read tables.
